My guess is that the jacket is actually from the late 50s or the 60s because of the narrow
lapel and button stance
Yes, the union tag is the 1948-1962 version and Brooks was doing the Italian spalla camicia mostly in the later 1950s. This one has 3 1/4" lapels but my other two pre 1962 Brooks Brothers I have are 2 7/8" and 3" lapels. The rest of my vintage suits and jackets are 2 1/3" to 2 7/8". I avoided brooks for years because I wanted narrower lapels. I admit, I wanted to dress like my Dad did in the 1960s (he was a 44 Long and I am a 40/41 Long, so none of his fit me).

I believe the buttonhole stitching will come out without a trace; lots of new OTR suits used to have it, even worsteds, and it was removed without effect for alterations.

Hi Everyone, thank you all so much for the advice and observations. I plan to take this jacket to a good tailor and have the fit checked next week. If the shoulders are within reason, I will let out the sleeves.

I need to ask more questions concerning shoulder fit and padding. I believe I am missing something in how this all works, concerning shoulder fit. That might be my next thread.
