Anyone rocking the rainshadow? Can you comment on construction, level of waterproofing/ overall wearability vs something typical like Arc’teryx beta, and wander pertex, Nike Acg (think I saw it mentioned this was same facbric). Need something that can take a beating, keep me dry and still look good in the process for regular use.

I have two rainshadows, which goes to show how much I love that jacket. My first 18E piece was the first two tone blue/moss rainshadow, and from there I fell in love with the brand.

Different fabric than arcteryx, but yeah the ACG fabric is what Antonio compares it to. Fabric is pretty hard wearing, and beads well, and the jacket is constructed superbly. One thing that should be noted is the jacket does not have seam taping, if that's a non-negotiable for you, find another jacket. Personally it hasn't been an issue for me, the only time it actually manifested was when I was in an insane rainstorm in Kenosha, my shoulders got a little damp at the seams.

It's one of my favorite jackets, I cannot recommend it enough. It's a slightly more lo-fi rain jacket, but seam taping would make it stupidly expensive. This is in a totally different thing from an Arc shell, but way more fun. I have used mine for skiing though. If you want a wide, not too long rain jacket, this is the one.

Ya I love it. I've only worn it in light rain, so I can't really comment on how it performs in heavy rains, but I stayed completely dry. It seems like it would work just fine though. I also prefer the boxier fit over my arcteryx beta.

For sizing that's the tricky part. I'm 5'9", and I have a medium in the rainshadow. The newer version I have ends at the waist area for me, so a medium might appear more cropped on you. I think if you're 6', you might want to consider the large. Obviously, refer to the size chart, compare to other jackets you have.

Alternatively, since you're on the taller end, maybe consider the cascade shell. It's a tad longer, and great for taller individuals. That didn't stop me from getting the brown one tho.

I actually remember asking the guy at the boutique if he wished the seams were taped, he was like 'nah I wear it all the time, non-issue'. He wasn't kidding, I've found it a total non-issue too. Probably best they saved us the price hike. Great rain jacket and I love the pocket detailing enough to wear it as a shell sometimes.

I'm quite certain I tuck in my shirt tails when I wear an oxford shirt with it.

Lunar Rock Cascade next week.

I wear both the cascade and rainshadow in XL and am just under 6'4". Love the pockets and asymmetrical color blocking opportunities with the rainshadow but the cascade is definitely my favorite outerwear style we've made overall. I have wear tested it like crazy. Trail running, often through downpours and snow. Snowboarding. The pocket configuration is so useful. It layers really well. And the cowled hood is undefeated. Cannot recommend enough.

I love the Cascade. I have had the shoulder seams leak a little in hard rain, but I don't care much because other parts of me are wetter anyway.

If you really need a full Gore-tex suit due to the extreme weather conditions, you probably shouldn't be looking at 18E. For every day use, it's definitely a sick jacket! You can buy aftermarket seam tape if it really bothers anyone.

Haha fair, lo-fi in the sense it has flat fell seams and it's made in the same factory as other 18east items, as opposed to a factory in china that churns out seam taped jackets. Still a high performing jacket obviously.

Thanks! And I agree, the Elgins are fantastic. The NB are a 993, I think color was called mushroom.
