I get the desire to save money, but in a market where it feels like every normal button-down shirt is a minimum of $250, 18East continues to feel like a steal at retail.
Agreed, but I also got a bit of a sticker shock this morning when I saw the price of the Ida bomber and the rest of its associated suit today. I don’t doubt that it’s a great deal for what it’s offering, but the price is still pretty high for an 18 East jacket. I’m probably just spoilt.

The price of any 18 East jacket is consistently 25-40% less that it would be from any other brand of similar quality.

If we wholesaled, the bomber would retail for just under $800.

🤷‍♂️

Absolutely agree. I have a couple of brands that I still like but almost every time now, I'll cart something from them and then I realize I'm paying $150-$200 for a mass produced poly blend shirt or jersey or whatever and realize I can get something far more interesting from 18 East.

The price of a brick is going up (I noticed it too) but I also want to +1 what others are saying: I still think I am getting something cooler and different and better for, at best, roughly comparable--or more often, still cheaper--prices than every other comparable clothing brand. I'd also add that the stock has been much deeper in the last year or two (possibly correlated?).

So I am MORE than happy to be paying the sticker price for stuff that is cooler, fairly priced from an objective perspective IMO, and that I don't necessarily need to snag in 2 seconds after it's released.

More importantly, what else did people gravitate towards? See some guys liked the outerwear. I was interested in more layerying/overshirts so I went with the Wes and Bacliff (which, by the way, at $218 is pretty clearly less expensive than it would be if it were from some other brand--250-350 minimum).

i can't tell if this means your expectation of their pricing or where the brand sits for you price point/quality wise
More of an expectation of pricing. For example, this summer’s Danilo was $368 relative to the Ida’s (which is extremely similar in pattern) $478. I’m assuming the difference in pricing comes down to the insulation on the Ida, which again is more proof that 18 East has totally skewed my expectations for pricing because that $368 jacket is literally one of my favorite things I own right now and I cannot believe it sold for the price it did.

To quote the GIF that I use way too much in regular life:
  • Miguel: Both.
  • Tulio: Both.
  • Both: Both.
  • Miguel: Both is good.
Picking up the tweed pants today but there's stuff that I'd like to buy that is less of a priority but I'd be super happy if I could shave some $ off the price tag. So those browser tabs or bookmarks wait (often to the point of my size selling out, but, they were less of a priority, so…)

(I also came to discover 18E while filling my COVID era closet with cheap streetwear and GAP-style junk, so the price tags have been a learning curve that I'm finally adjusting to.)

The only thing that bothers me about the price are the customs duties and VAT. Some brands deduct VAT beforehand, so you only pay the customs duty on top.

But I think 18 East is so special that I would pay for it. Although I have to say that apart from a few pieces, I hardly bought anything after the first drop - but that had nothing to do with the prices.

However, my last purchase convinced me so much that I added a Lamar straight away.

Are you sure? In the UK you pay customs on the item and then VAT on the item, the customs and the shipping. Could be different from country to country, I guess.

I'm fairly certain the software they use is that used by every other retailer unless there is something weird going on. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me at the moment.
