The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I had an emergency need for immediate tuxedo trousers a little while ago (had a black tie dinner, opened up my garment bag after work and didn't have any trousers to go with my tux) ... they may be no better quality than the rental, but I was able to get a cheap pair from Jos a Bank on Madison...

No one will see them, but IMO the formal version with fabric ends is much more comfortable than the standard leather. Probably less of an issue if you don't have a gut but YMMV

For the ivory DJ, suggest full lining in white/ivory. Bemberg since it wears cooler than silk. Reason being that ivory fabrics tend to be more see-through, and this avoids potentially having the black trousers (or anything else e.g. braces) showing through.

One note on the Laval - I’m based in the US, and I believe our importer asks for the Cumieres to behold longer pre-release, like they do with their higher-tier wines, so am not sure if the bottles you fine in Europe will be slightly different.

Laval Cumieres, any of the Bereche premier crus, Pierre Gimonnet special club, Alain Thienot Cuvee Garance, J.L. Vergnon 'Confidence', Vouette et Sorbee Fidele, Stephane Coquillette Les Cles

I suspect chambers buys old bottles without asking too many questions about potential subpar storage. have had a bunch of bad experiences with them. for older bottles in nyc IWM/Astor/Tribeca/etc. are worth the price premium

If you get an MTM 2-piece from somewhere that also does bespoke, it should be possible to have them make a waistcoat from matching fabric/trim as a bespoke piece, which may not cost much extra compared to an MTM 3-piece if you don't like their MTM waistcoat model.

Looks like the Pierre Gimonnet Special Club is around that price, too

Bereche, Laval? At a slightly lower price point, an also a big fan of Stephane Coquillette

And then for more classic CdP in no particular order: Beaurenard, Le Vieux Michel, Domaine Saint Prefert, Clos de Papes, Domaine de la Charbonniere

Much lighter than CdP but one of my favorite southern Rhones is the Vin de Pays de Vaucluse from Domaine des Tours (from the same family owner/winemaker as Rayas)

Then Pegau (one of my favorites in CdP) is probably not for you (at least not over VT which is also great but a cleaner style)
