We've had a "work from anywhere" policy pretty much forever. I missed out on the "no COL adjustment" era, though. I would have a pay cut if I left the Bay.

My current manager lives in OR, and her boss lives in San Diego. Our CEO is the only one in my chain of command who actually lives around here.

What's going to happen to all the commercial real estate? Will offices be redesigned around lower density occupancy? Will any of that space get converted into housing or other use?

This is coming on the heels of the retail collapse, to boot. ****** time to be a commercial real estate developer (and thank Gaia for that, we've got more than enough ****** retail boxes)

I keep hearing that some former retail spaces in malls will be converted to low cost housing but have yet to see one of those projects get off the ground. I would imagine some major give from zoning would be required.

That's what I want to know. I am balls deep in REIT's. The only one I am worried about is MAC. With e-commerce exploding, they should probably be converted to office/warehousing. I know some commercial real estate owners have started converting offices into storage units also.

I have been back in the office full time since Feb. Others I know are still remote.

I don't visit clients much these days....but others here do.

I actually prefer to be in the office. WiFi is stronger...SF loads faster...:eh:

On quit rates, I see this stat getting expropriated to advance the "People are quitting and sitting on their asses at home because benefits are free" idea. However, my understanding is that this statistic doesn't just capture folks quitting jobs and removing themselves from the workforce. It also includes those that quit and immediately take on a job elsewhere.

While that principle might still be true, this statistic is not as supportive of it as it might appear at face value. There's another stat floating around saying that about 40% of professionals are considering changing jobs within the next year -- this quit rate stat might also be capturing some of that trend as well.
