Three Days of the Condor

Decent Watergate era paranoid thriller with lots of tweed + 1970s styles. Faye Dunaway has said that she was too star struck to convince audiences that she feared Robert Redford’s character. She’s right, but she’s Faye Dunaway so it didn’t bother me that much. I also enjoyed the 1970s midtown and downtown locations.

Scarface (1932) the ur form of the gangster film. It’s all here, the visual tropes, the gangster family values, the violence, even the accents. Tony Soprano’s psychiatric sessions, the Godfather’s cannoli & Scorsese’s soundtracks are just decorative elements hung on Hawks’ basic structure.

Paul Muni does a great job in the lead evoking his character’s brutish qualities without going over the top (unlike Pacino in the De Palma remake). His accent isn’t quite natural but it’s somehow convincing enough.

No Hard Feelings (2023)

Did I watch it because Jennifer Lawrence takes off all of her clothes? I can't deny that that was why I first heard about the movie...

But it fit my sense of humor pretty well and I give it 2 thumbs up.

Yep, same for me.

Guy in front of me was watching this on the plane today.

Like…bruh…what’s the point? The airline edit cuts out the most important parts of the film (believe me, I watched for it, it had a hack-job close crop edit).

This might be the greatest trilogy in film history. Hot Fuzz is, legitimately, one of my favorite films of all time.

I love the twins reading Iain Banks / Iain M. Banks gag. I think I spotted it on my 3rd viewing.

They don't make em like this anymore. One of the very favorites. But then again it's based on Tennessee Williams play and it has Richard Burton and Ava Gardner so it couldn't go very wrong.

Movie about security forces and cops making transition from commie times to 90s broke down and in transition Poland, mixed some very clear influence of US crime/action movies, pretty cool.

Saturday afternoon Mrs GF in Sydney so home alone.
The film is more of a character study rather than a historical biopic. The battles are brutally savage and overall it’s visually sumptuous, costumes are astounding and well acted by all involved.
Basically Ridley Scott does it again.

I don’t know what it is, but I love a good Scandinavian crime drama. Just finished The Chestnut Man and really liked it. Suspenseful with twists and turns!

The Eiger Sanction ( 1975 ) . what a weird flick : imagine a cross between james bond and indiana jones that works for blofeld .

anyways : a us gov't assassin ( clint eastwood , also directing ) is compelled to unretire to protect his stash of black market art and savings account . he leads his mysterious quarry to an assault on the north face of the Eiger .

chills thrills and spills . also some primo tail , including henry miller's muse brenda venus ! recommend !
