Ran into Ming Thien today and he showed me his latest project. The Ming ultralight, powered by a manual wind movement and housed in a magnesium alloy case, it weighs just under 9grammes - or use his comparison - the same as two sheets of A4 copy paper

The weird thing is that it feels so light, it doesn’t feel like a watch

As far as interesting watches under $10k, just saw this. Interesting in how they achieved the aesthetic of the dial without using any coloring/pigment, although there isn't really anything interesting about the titanium case, etc.

Oris Pro Pilot X Calibre 400 Laser

Meet the new ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser. Its 39mm case and bracelet are both in titanium, and it’s powered by our game-changing Calibre 400 five-day automatic. But the story this time is in its colourful dial, which is created using an innovative lasering technique never seen in watchmaking before. Incredibly, there’s not a drop of colour pigment in it. Instead, the blue, green and violet finish is created by reflected light. It’s a technological beauty.
The technique behind the watch’s colourful dial is state-of-the-art. But it’s inspired by the principles of biomimicry, whereby technology reflects the wonders of nature. Think of the iridescent wings of a beetle and the way they reflect light to appear a bluey-green. It’s the same thing here. We developed the technique in partnership with Switzerland’s prestigious ETH Zürich university and this is the first time it’s been used in a watch.

I've tried on one of these without the laser dial, and they just didn't seem as interesting in person as they do in marketing photos. I was disappointed because I really do like the overall design of the watch, and the fact that it is titanium. I wonder if this will be any different, but I do think $8k $5k is pretty steep.

Always liked the Legend Diver, now also in 39mm.

I picked up the 42 mm version a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. I knew the 39mm version was coming but had decided that I liked this watch best in its original 42 mm size. What I'm struggling with, though, is figuring out how a new size (39 mm) with the exact same movement somehow merits a 33% price increase. Wow.
