I re-watched the first and last episodes of Rings of Power after seeing the trailer for the upcoming season. Lots more to like than dislike. The showrunners swore they wouldn't do a "Who is Sauron?" reveal and then did exactly that. I thought the actor who was revealed as Sauron did a great job.

Biggest gripes are mainly fanboy stuff about when the Rings were made and such. They seriously compress the Second Age timeline. Then they have The Stranger who is finally revealed as an Istari (wizard) although most folks guessed that early on. They also tease that he might be Gandalf but he would have arrived way too early, a big departure from the text.

Put on my serious Fan Boy Nerd Hat and read that Tolkien envisioned the two Blue wizards as having arrived in the Second Age even though he never added that to his published works (my Tolkien library is voluminous). They went to the East which is what the show depicted so that's who the Stranger might actually be.

Anyway, will definitely give the next season a go.

I heard Amazon lost rights to Tolkien, hence, the series has some holes in the plot. (The right were sold to develop a videogame. lol)

I think they have rights to the Hobbit and LOTR only. They are pulling the material from the Appendices at the end of ROTK which has a timeline of events for all of three ages. The bulk of the written material on FA and SA stuff is in the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Lost Tales and such which they do not have rights to. Hence all the new characters and events they had to invent to fill up the shell of a timeline.

Although I did read the Tolkien estate is letting them carve out some specifics from the other stuff but I have no idea what that might ne.

I was watching some clips from the original X-Men cartoon and it's pretty hilarious how bad the action usually is, mostly because they couldn't actually show anything serious on morning TV (and probably a low budget). They just kind of grab people, stand there for a minute, then throw them. Wolverine threatens people with his claws then immediately retracts them.

It's pretty funny. Reminds you that it was definitely originally marketed for kids.

The new one...is not.
