for $710 brand new over those beat up carpe's any day. not really a fair comparison though, since those shoes are for the "i want to pay $$$$$$ for something as ugly as possible" crowd

It's not a fair comparison because you're comparing apples to oranges. Some people get the appeal of boots like CD and the W+H and some don't, which is fine. Maybe these bidders like the quality and aesthetic of the boot and they aren't "brand whores". One could call you a brand whore for lusting over a $1400 pair of boots when there are less expensive alternatives.
