There's ton of places in Alhambra/San Gabriel that sell these...and they all seem to be $3 or less. They open up at like 6am so you can get one for breakfast too

I'm a big fan Nicky's. Two locations, one in the E. Village on 2nd st and Ave. A, and one on Atlantic Ave, between Hoyt and Smith.

That's Tribeca price you're paying, it shouldn't cost more than $4 in Chinatown. Canal is always a zoo cold or not, there're two Vietnamese places right on Grand St by the B & D station that's not as hectic as Canal.

Those aren't traditional sandwiches, which, I suppose is to be expected for a neo-fusion type of Vietnamese restaurant that this place seems to be.

corner of walker street and lafayette (1 block below canal) it's a deli called sau voi killer sandwiches. get dac biet (pate, ham, and turkey), with hot peppers, not just hot sauce. $3.85 these days, I think...
