The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

Agree with the others here. Generally I do P2P * 2 then take 1 size down. So 44, then 42. If non-bespoke/MTM, then drop of 6 (42-36) between jacket and waist is typical for British suits. Italian tends to be 6-8 drop from what I have seen.

Classic, straight, double pleated trousers which don't look pre-war and don't taper like contemporary cuts.

Little late to the show, but I've got bigger legs and I've had really great luck with Rota Pantaloni (pic 1), particularly their Rotasport line. Fits tend to be fairly consistent, loads of double pleat options with vintage, and a pretty limited taper. Obviously availabe on NMWA but I've...

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

I totally get this as well. When selling nice stuff on the ‘bay, I’ve found that doing everything to present it less as a used item helps - so stuff like using white space around the item to keep the image uncluttered, even lighting, hung up on a rack (in my case) etc etc. I find a lot of...

I think the 17cm one I saw might have been an MTO adjusted down, but I do recall seeing at least in the past 18cm a few times.

At last count (and some might be discontinued, but I have seen all these models): - High waisted tapered - High waisted straight flat front - High waisted straight double pleat - High waisted tapered - High waisted wide leg - High waisted flared - Mid waist tapered - Mid waist straight I am...

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

Everyone seems to be changing up their fee structures recently, Vinted has had the sellers for buyers only for some time while Vestiaire a few weeks ago shifted from fees for sellers to fees for buyers. I'm sure there's some other website I've missed out on.

No way! That’s where I found an Anglo Italian suit once for £100. Whenever I visit The Box sample sales I always make sure to pop by.

If you don’t mind me asking which Crisis store is that? They tend to get really good stock

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Over the past few days I’ve been really diving deep into Bode, which as far as I know hasn’t taking on any outside investment according to Lauren Sherman on Puck back in 2023. It sounds like they have been profitable from the start but top line figures haven’t broken past $10m (according to that...

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Are there any brands from the past decade that have seen big growth without PE investment? Seems like every other week I hear about another BoF feature on PE-backed brands trying to exit.

Anyone had luck with the Drakes sample sale run by Musicroom Mayfair in London? Looks like they will be running something 3rd to 5th April

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

In the boutique I volunteered at, one of the guidelines was actually to go along with 30-40% of RRP if possible - and that was for used, not NWT. Particular absurd for the sort of brands where RRP is only nominal and the majority of sell through when new is on discount. I think the even bigger...

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

I know at least two charity shop chains (Royal Trinity and RSPCA) often move their stock around different stores, at least for their nicer or higher end stuff. In the former case they also do have a few outlet stores. I think one big challenge is that there is a lot of stock that does get...

The Official Thrift / Discount Store Bragging Thread Part III (Sept 2018-)

I think also from what I have seen in London, people don't seem to be as clued in to the sort of stuff that can be found. This is generalising to some extent, but I have noticed that the younger crowd tends to be happy with going Notting Hill/Camden for their 'vintage' fix, and then there are...

British Red Cross right? I don’t think I’ve seen anything under £50 in that store last time I visited. Once in the Notting Hill branch they had a few Zegna cloth suits for £300…

Discussions about the fashion industry thread

From the phrasing of 'restructuring' not being a likely outcome, probably liquidating and shutting down? Are there any big luxury e-tailers that aren't struggling? YNAP, Farfetch not doing well.

Tips on where to buy sale-price shoes (Northampton brands)?

Late reply, but might be helpful. If you can make the trip, I think most of the Northampton shoemakers have factory outlets in Northampton itself, but check which days they are open. If you’re open to pre-owned, I have heard good things about Marrkt and Abbots Shoes (in the latter, many of the...
