Steve Doudaklian (Bedo’s Leather Works) can fix these. It will be expensive, but, perhaps, worth it if they have sentimental value. The death of the George twins seems inevitable. The shell has torn where the tongue meets the vamp area. My cobbler pronounced them dead and stated that any fix wouldn't last long. Only 15 years old yet so many good times together..oh, well..just means I need to purchase a replacement soon. 😅.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what I might be able to use the leather for (if anything)? Seems a waste to toss it..but not sure what I'd do with it..
We had a good run my friends..I'll miss you..Cheers...😩

Thank you for the advice. I'll look into it tomorrow. Other than having them a long time, they don't have any particular sentimental value. I hate to see them go, but if fixing them is going to cost anywhere near a new pair, I'd go with a new pair.
I’ll bet Aram can fix fix them as well and the price will be quite reasonable.
The soles on the 987 should break in and become more flexible with use, thus reducing heel slip. Also, since it happens mainly on one foot, you could add tongue or heel pads if necessary. Or even have a cobbler stitch an additional layer of leather on the heel, for a more elegant solution.Just picked up the 987 and 6245F in 10D while visiting New York.
The 6245F feels great but the there is noticeable heel slip on the 987, mainly on the right foot. They told me the heel slip would go away after a couple of wears.
Tried the 987 in 9.5E with no heel slip but felt like the pressure from the vamp was too strong.
Given that the 6245F fits perfectly, is it likely that the heel slip in 987 in 10D will go away?
Thanks!

Have a good week-end ☀️
Thanks ! Double RL officer chino pant - olive 😉👍🪖Sometimes the simplest is the best. Snuff on olive is so good. Deets on chinos? I like the material.
not an expert but I’ve seen cobblers glue a small piece of leather over the tear, sand flush, then glue a topy on top. Short term solution though.Noticed a small tear in the sole of my unlined chukkas. Bummer as they haven’t seen crazy wear over the years. Guess resole is the only way to go? Curious what the experts think. Cheers.
