Is this shirt too much for an interview?

Your interviewer should forget what you were wearing except that you were dressed appropriately. Following that guideline, I'd say no mostly because of the odd buttons.

How about the color of the shirt itself?

Sure, the blue or white are quite appropriate. I'd also look for 100% cotton as you said; avoid something with "stretch" in the title as it is likely more for clubbing.

I understand how engineers get away with wearing all sorts of clothes not normally considered appropriate for interviews, however, my advice is still to dress to not be noticed. Thus, white shirt. Safest bet.

Firstly, I hate unsightly buttons. The tie is there to hide those damn things. Worse for the blue shirt, those buttons stand out like sore thumbs.
Forget the blue, though it had dark buttons, your tie should cover them but I would wear white to an interview. Save blue for the everyday after you get the job.

Any of them (in white only) should look fine. If you are more slim I'd probably try the CK since men's dress shirts are often very full bodied. If you can't try them on in advance you might want to order two different shirts and return one to the store.

^ Good suggestion. Aside from possible variations in how wide the body is, dress shirts that ostensibly are the same size can vary as much as two inches or so in sleeve length. Unless you really don't have easy access to a mall or department store, it's worth spending ten minutes in a store trying on a couple of shirts. Alternatively, as Maxten suggests, buy a couple from an online seller with free returns and keep the one that fits you best.
