never understand why people who are poor and have no marketable skills want to live in NYC. (i guess they're drawn to drugs, crime, and ethnic tribalism. oh and welfare.) it is a filthy crime ridden s***hole and the most expensive one in the country. and its cold. if you're not a banker/lawyer/250k min wage type, or their spoiled artiste progeny, you'd be crazy to live in NYC. and even the aforementioned should think twice.

Dear OP, you should not spend more than 1/3 of your after tax income on housing. This includes utilities.
NYC (manhattan) is the exception to that rule, where up to 50% is permissible.
You should learn from the example your mom set and don't dive into a place you can't afford. That's how you GET into debt.
Generally all I do is work, sleep and eat. I don't go out much or buy coffee or any other excessive things. Also, the last time I spent money on things other than living expenses was about two months ago, and I only spent about $15.
