As a precursor for tomorrow- my favorite combo: navy blue suit and tie with blue shirt.

Do you think you command more respect from the kids because you dress so well and look so sharp? I would assume this would help you out in the business world but I'm pretty unaware when it comes to 8th graders. Do they notice how different you look from the other teachers?

LOL, thanks Achilles! I know I command more respect from the kids. A jacket and tie is an amazing power signal, and even though they may not like what I have to say, they respect it. I don't play games with them either. Too many teachers are caught up with "teaching these kids a lesson" in some fucked up, spiteful kind of way. These people shouldn't be working with children. With me, they always know where they stand, and why, and I think the way I dress helps get that no nonsense, all business approach across. Some of the kids will comment on what I wear from day to day, and they all laugh when a box arrives for me (usually some ties or shoes from eBay). It seems like I spend a lot, but its usually a in and out policy when it comes to new stuff. I also didn't always dress this way for work, and I have noticed a severe change in how the kids act around me. When I was far more casual, the kids were more casual. Now, like I said, we're all business. Its also great, because it allows me to be a nut job (I'm still basically a kid at heart) and I can play with them, but then reign them back in at the snap of a finger.

(Nitpicking it might be, but the fits of your sc´s could be dramatically improved. Now kill me).

Well, certainly Inspector Gadget went nuts. How dare i to wear THAT coat and THAT hat together?

Aha!

A Drakes solid reppe tie.

Knew it as soon as I saw your pic, mate.

Bought the grenadine version, and got the same favourable reaction from people.

It's reassuring to hear that you take your job seriously! I would guess the parents and the administrators can appreciate it as well.

It seems to me that sloppiness from a teacher would beget sloppiness from students. My wife has mentioned to me that when she "dresses up" (I use that term loosely, I should probably say "puts together a well thought out professional outfit - even more so than normal") the students notice and even comment "You look like a real teacher today!" Classes seem to go smoother for her. I'm trying to put together a teacher wardrobe for her but the only place I have for inspiration is a Brooks Brothers Catalog

Anyway I hope my kids (someday haha) will have a teacher who cares as much as you. My wife has told me horror stories of tenured teachers tossing up a video and going on the internet to mess around for almost every class period.

But I don't want to turn this into a public education bashing tantrum. I look forward to seeing what you put up.

The really true blazer today is a DB, that's right. The question is more how strict to the rule you play it. We have SB as well and they're usually accepted as blazers. Even the rule on the number of buttons I mentioned is obviously not holy as one can see with Brooks Brothers' "Two-Button Blazer."

I was just curious on if it needs any tailoring, personally I feel like the sides needs to taken in.

Well, I can't tell from your pictures for sure. What about making better pictures and ask us again?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
