Black and Tan Together, The right way

Ok, i have presentation coming up very soon, and need a little advice or some opinions on what im wearing. I want to look good, but a modern and different good and better than all the other presenters while still retaining a semi-casual look.

Heres what i got right now. Black Dockers, black dress shirt, tan leather shoes (camel) with a matching leather belt. The shirt is tucked, sleeves rolled up and not buttoned to the top (1-2 undone) with a white or black undershirt.

Now, i was wondering what the opinions are about the set up or what i could or should change. Im still on the fence about it and not 100%.

The outfit you shared does not sound appealing or appropriate for a professional presenation. However, to provide suggestions, it is helpful to know what type of presentation it is, for what organization; and your age may be relevant.

Can't go wrong with plain white shirt and charcoal trousers, IMO.

Tan shoes simply should not be worn with black. Ever. And the black dress shirt should not be worn by an ameteur. It can be worn well, but it's an advanced users only kind of thing.

The khakis will be fine, but get a pair of black shoes, a nice black pair of socks (just in case you were thinking of wearing white athletic ones), and a white oxford. Alternitivly, an interesting polo (read: bolder pattern. Solids are evil). Only unbotton the top button. The two button thing can look okay, but again, advanced users only. And even advanced users often come off as douchbags. Black belt to match the shoes.

Do you really want to stand out? Then dress well. Most people don't. If you wear what you described, you will look even more horrible then most. Fit involves things like clothing that's trim and actually fits your body. Colors that don't make you look like you got dressed in the dark. Black pants require black shoes. Basic things.

Ok, thats how i usually go with a charcoal, grey, white, black, or some combo like that. Not a big fan of blues, but do have a few things, and do not like browns. But, i do like tan leather items and am looking at way to incorporate that into my wardrobe.

Any suggestions?

cptjeff, that is how I usually dress, but looking to change things and do things different, this idea (obviously) is an a failed pursuit, but what are some of the other options i could work with?

With browns or greens. Olive is a wonderful color for pants, be they khakis, cords, or linen and wool slacks. I suggest you try that. Dockers sells that color in their slimmer fits (at least the D2), so it's easy enough to come by in a decent fit.

Perhaps a pic would help? IMO it depends a lot on the particular pieces you have.
