I actually like the new Uncle Seiko AT bracelet more than the new Omega bracelet. I'm one of the lucky ones who was able to dial in a good fit on my AT 38 with half links, but have never been a fan of the polished center links. I'm thinking about ordering the bracelet in the picture below.

That’s basically the 3861 Speedmaster bracelet. Omega should make this their standard bracelet for all of their watches.

The only one I miss is the 5712. I can always get it again.

Very, very happy with my current stable: PP 3941J, Berneron Mirage, Chopard 16/1860, Movado Celestograf, Heuer 3647S, Rolex Explorer, and Tudor P39. Leans pretty heavy into thin dress watches but that is what I gravitate towards.
It was predictable alas.

I think if Newcomer revisits a Patek sport watch it will be the 5065. It’s an improvement over the Nautilus in terms of design—one of the rubber strap pioneers, the grenade dial is amazing, and the quirky five minute markers and the offset 3 seal it for the design. In my opinion a hands down improvement. 5167 and its progeny are trash though.

Each to his own… i suppose the grenade dial speaks more to you than to a mere civilian like me.

Throwing hand grenades was one of my favorite military experiences, moreso than firing an AT-4 or directing an Apache rocket attack. Perhaps the ultimate thrill is calling in artillery danger close. My colleague was the FO on such a mission and came away with fragmentation in his knee. He also has a mustard stain. Sh*t officer, though.

Hell yes.

Makes me hope harder for a constellation refresh this year with those dog legs and a pie pan

Have to say that I do respect the focus.

More of what you realllly truly like, less of what you don't.

I didn't know that that kind of lugs is called dog legs. May be the reason why I prefer cats.

The 2014 Constellation Globemaster has a certain amount of appeal but the longer I've looked at it, the more issues I had with it. It takes the Genta-era vibe (C case, alpha hands, quasi fluted bezel) and randomly puts a weird three-link bracelet on it with a pie pan, but nothing else that made the 50s-era ones so cool. It's my hope this new Olympics tie-in (which is a throwback to an Olympics Seamaster they made in 1956 apparently) harks the coming of a true Constellation re-release. The pie pan dial, dauphine hands, dog leg lugs and inset minute track are just the bee's knees. I don't necessarily want a slavish reproduction of a 1950s watch, and this Seamaster they just announced shows what a potential rerelease might look like.

edit: just read that Fratello article and learned they'd already done a dog leg watch in '08 very much like this (37mm even). so, maybe shouldn't be so hopeful……

I see your point (faithfulness to the original), but this looks so much more attractive in my eyes.

Looks like the dude responsible for designing this stopped half-way to go to the bathroom and, in a rush, design management dudes just picked up what he was working on and decided to make the watch, as-is. Awful.

What do you guys think of the Andersen Geneve world timers? I like the aesthetics of a lot of the newer work, but they kind of seem too derivative of Patek. Once you do the math on cost of ownership, it's significantly less expensive to go the Patek route too.

The main thing I like the idea of is getting a world timer with relevant cities, plus an enamel picture of the mountains here might be neat.

The movements are kind of bleh too. Maybe there's a watchmaker doing custom world timers closer to ~$10k - $15k?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
