I purchased a pair of GAP straight fit tailored khakis (34x30) last week on sale. Ideally, I would like to slim these down a bit so I can wear them with a pair of oxfords, with a blazer, etc. Taking suggestions.

If you need more pics let me know.

I find them to be....well....khakis. I am no fan of khakis and don't own a single pair, but my only comment would be that they are too long. They have quite a big break, even without shoes. Once you add a pair of shoes the break will become even more significant.

Other than that...I just find them to be uninspiring. Perhaps better photos, with more light, would elicit more suggestions from those that view the thread.

Change your socks, then put your shoes on and people will give you advice. I think they look find for casual khakis, but what are your plans for these?

Khakis are khakis, do they fit you well? Feel comfortable? That's what matters. You may want to also check out some of those new dockers slim fit.

I agree. I was hoping with a few alterations they would have a slimmer look. I might just take jbharris88 advice and purchase a khaki with a slimmer fit.

They're cotton pants--they'll shrink. Don't mess with the inseam yet.

Those pants with alterations will put you close to how much a pair of khaki colored cotton pants by Mabitex will cost you. Mabitex cottons go for about $60 here, and you'll maybe throw $10-15 for alterations. I'm all for good deals, so have no problem with the occasional GAP purchase, but in this case it doesn't seem worth it.

You might also want to look towards Lands End Canvas' slim fit chinos and J Crew urban slim fitting chinos. I've also heard that some of the slim fits by Dockers is worth looking into. Steven Alan is doing a collaboration with them that should be released in a month or two (if not already).

^^^ Thanks guys.

Yeah I pretty much decided that I purchased a pant with the wrong cut, and that it'd be best to just buy another one than to get these altered.

Well I can't really tell the lenght without you having shoes on but the rest of it seems to be fine aside from needing a good pressing.

I have a different view on these pants. They need to go.

Why? The pants are too tight in the thighs, maybe waist and I am guessing the seat. A looser, more proper, fit in the thighs and the pants will hang better and not look so bulky in the legs. Break is completely dependent on the shoes, so I can't advise there. You don't have a slim frame to go with slim cut pants so don't try.

The bad news is that if you let out seams on khaki's there will be visible and unseemly marks. So, buy the next size up. You may need the next size up and have them taken in a bit if you want perfection.
