Your Thoughts on Mass E-Mails?

I have a friend who used to email me on a personal level. Now, he put my name with a group of his friends and family about 40 or more. He emails us on a weekly basis but I feel that the 'personal' touch is gone and find it rather rude. Should I tell him to take my name off his list? How do you feel about being in a mass email from close friends?

5 of my closest college friends and I do this. I don't mind it, but if it was 40 it would seem less personal.

40 people is a ton. It's not too bad if its simple emails letting people know how he's doing. Then they hold more personal emails on the side. No big deal.

I do mass emails with at most 10 people and usually only a handful of those participate.

What's more questionable are people who click "reply all" without fail when they are part of an email chain. Incredibly annoying.

I will have mass emails going sometimes around a very small friends circle (4-8 people) planning and discussing things, but 40 people is just stupid.

It's really annoyning. Just send him an e-mail and tell him to take you off the list.

I do send out mass e-mails, but only to a group of about 10 close friends, and only with a subject that all of them would have an interest in.

Depends on what its for.

I dont mind when friends who have just had a kid send a mass email with pictures and such. They have much better things to do with their time than write 50 different mails.

I send mass emails to plan big nights out with groups of people.

Just tell him to update his stooopid facebook status once in a while instead and that you'll check when you have time.

for me, mass emails are to no more than eight to 10, maximum. Any more, it's probably not that important a topic and I'll use bcc instead.

I somehow have ended up on various personal distribution lists of several family and friends. I hate it, but haven't found a delicate yet direct way to tell them to remove my name. I've hinted many times about the amount of mail I receive, but to no avail.

Sometimes it's to show off one's Rolodex:

"Wow, he sends dirty jokes to Henry Kissinger and Nelson Mandela!"
