Speed and price, though I agree with the sentiment. That's why the TM Lewin appeals to me, exactly the design I want and not too much alteration.

There's only one Autograph design at £200, this one and the smallest waist size is 32. Several of the others, including the Collezione ones, start at 30. Actually, all of the Autograph designs start at 32.

Oh, I was looking at the Autograph normal suits rather than dinner suits. It's odd that almost everything goes down to 30 except that one. You could always buy the 32 and have them taken in?

unfortunatley i agree with WANDRIN......... TM LEWIN, much like their shirts are 'ok' for their price range and nothing special. Yes the are boxy and are no different to M&S in style... M&S are cheaper and if thats the look you are going for ...of 'ok' I would go for M&S and save fifty quid. However I wouldn't buy either... just my opinion of course.

Their suits look decent, especially for the price.

I've just come back from Cad and the Dandy.

The guy I met with (I've forgotten his name!) seemed genuine and knowledgable. I spent an hour and a quarter with him talking through the various options and getting measurements taken.

Examining the example suits, I felt they were well made for the price, particularly the lining. I placed an order for a £400 (cost me £360 when I mentioned Christmas, thank you Wandrin) suit, charcoal but with alternating lighter and darker shades, I'm not sure what you call that.

I went with a red satin lining and white piping. Of course, I haven't resolved my dinner suit problem but I can make do with my current one this year and if this suit comes back well, I know where to go for a MTM one for next year.

I got some new shoes today too, arrived from Yoox, Luca Valentini. They are very....Italian. I hope I can pull them off!

I have tried them recently and have been very impressed for what they are i.e a decently made cheap suit in a nice range of fabrics with a modern clean cut.
Not amazing quality but certainly a decent finish for the price. Yes the store is a little gimmicky and a bit cold but I am impressed do far and will be purchasing some more suits for work when needed.
The shirts are ok too, again not amazing quality but the slim fit are actually quite slim which helps and they have a nice selection of patterns/colours.
Nice to have an alternative on cheaper RTW suits to M&S which have some nicely made stuff that is a little more stuffy in style.

I'll post some actual pics when I have the chance. I've noticed the back of one of the shoes has been discoloured, it's looking a bit grey rather than brown. Not sure if I should ask for a replacement or just apply some brown polish.

I have used the guys at cad and the dandy and been very pleased with the results. Yes those shoes are quite Italian but i think they look nice... plus also with the heel might even give you a few extra inches in height which might be beneficial

I made a thread but it seems the make is too obscure to generate much interest.

Price/quality comparison from a suit specialist (not somewhere you buy your food, or get 4 awful shirts for £100 because your mates do) is obviously where you need to be.

Jermyn street is for shirts. Apart from TM Lewin and Hawes and Curtis. Easier to give up than cigarettes and alcohol.

You must not cut corners. Your mother will notice. What would she say if she knew you purchased your suit from a shirt shop. Would you buy your sausages from a green grocer?

Let a tailor assess the most suitable style and shape for your configuration. You can't make John Prescott look like David Beckham. If you are not an athlete, the best tailors cannot help.

You cannot polish a turd!

Get down to Vigo Steet...it's next to EAT..if you want a sandwich first. Your girlfriend can go to Abercrombie and have her photo taken with a man that wouldn't normally talk to her, while you are look after by a professional tailor.

It is as good in London as in the Netherlands. Since I relocated here 6 years ago from Amsterdam,I was so pleased that my profile was saved so I could order more suits and shirts in 10 minutes as i was more than happy with my previous orders.

Make the leap....leave your friends on Jermyn Street. You can always meet them in Cafe Curtis afterwards to compare purchases. They will be gagging for a refund.
