They do for New York, but that only matters if the item is under $110, which, sadly, the Grants are not. New Jersey doesn't have any sales tax on shoes or clothing. I seriously need to set up a tax haven at a Mailboxes ETC or whatever in New Jersey.

Up here sales tax won't kick in so long as a pre-set threshold hasn't been met.
Once the latter has been exceeded the following formula applies: subtotal - less $175 + plus sales tax.

I own Mackays and have tried on Grants. Same size for me.

I received the Grants yesterday. To my relief, my initial impressions are that they fit similarly to my Mackays in the same size -- I think the high vamp and buckle make them snugger than the typical slip-on. They're definitely keepers!

Establish a relationship with a salesman and you can sometimes get the polo.com discount in store.

Since the polo.com website no longer had my size, I called a salesman in the Beverly Hills store who had previously sold me a pair of MTO EG Dovers. He just called to say he had a pair of Grants in US size 12D delivered to the store for me, he will give me the 30% discount, and they'll ship today.

On the other hand, I was at the Chicago RL store on Sunday of last week, where I tried on the Barksdale loafers and the Grants. I wanted to give the salesman a commission, but I also wanted the discount, so I asked if he could give me the polo.com sale price of $550 on the Barksdales. Although I could have ordered my size on the web and _might_ have been able to stack the 30% discount code shortly after midnight on 3/26, I nonetheless placed an order with him, since he told me he would get the commission. I called or visited the store for the next 4 days, because I wanted to order the Grants, too, but the salesman was out. So I ordered the Grants through the BH store and it looks like the twit in Chicago isn't going to order the Barksdales for me. So I'm one-for-two on discounted EGs working through the RL stores.

Definitely dark oak rather than black. Initially I wasn't taken by the dark oak color because it mutes the antiquing, but after a good polishing, they almost glow. I'm also going to try lightening them gradually with tan polish.

Approximately 80% of my shoes are brown or cordovan and I rarely buy black shoes anymore.

I thought the dark oak had a edge but they only have size 8.5 online. I may be able to pull something through the RL store here in DC but I may have to settle for the black pair. One more thing . . . did they come with shoe trees?

OK, so here is my story!!! I called the local RL store (Chevy Chase MD) and told my salesperson that I wanted the Grants in size 11 or 11.5. He says that he only has a size 9 but he would look throughout the company. He finds a store in Chicago that has an 11.5 left and has them overnighted to MD. They come in and he says they must have been the "try on" shoe and they don't look good. I say OK but I still want to try them on for sizing. He says OK I am going to have them polished for you and waiting for you and if you want them, I will give you a discount OK. I get there and the shoes are PERFECT! I don't know what they did but I couldn't tell they were ever put on, no creases, no sole wear. So I say I'll take em. He rings them up and TAKES 20% FOR IMPERFECT MERCHANDISE AND THEN TAKES ANOTHER 30% FOR THE FF DISCOUNT (EVEN THOUGH IT ENDED YESTERDAY)

TOTAL COST = $558.00 OUT THE DOOR!!!!

is that a good deal????
