dopey, your sacrifices in the name of science are appreciated.

I have a tie like that. I should wear it more.

while you guys have been busy writing word after word in this thread, I have been wearing this tie for three days in a row in the interest of understanding a little better how it works. Tried it with a gray flannel DB suit, with a gun club sportcoat and with a heavy tweedy sportcoat.

If I had to limit my wardrobe to one tie, it would be a toss up between that bar stripe and a navy grenadine.

Hmmm....post pics of each fabric for each SC as above, have people predict on the basis of this pic and fabric photos which pairings work, then reveal shots of each combo. Points to be given out at the end. Just cuz it's a slow Sunday.

That the man makes the tie.

In all seriousness, what I was trying to do was get a feel for how that tie worked with more and less formal clothing. It isn't a question of what it looks best with. Rather, I was trying to understand what impact it has, in combination with other things, on a gray flannel suit, or a tweedy sport coat. It is a versatile tie, but also one that reflects back whatever it is worn with. That makes it fun to wear,

That might be my favorite patterned tie. Simple stripes don't get the love they deserve on SF.

Really? I find that stripe tie fits get a ton of thumbs in WAYWRN. Maybe there are not simple enough to fit your definition tho.
