We had a great meal at August two years ago.

If anything, it was sharper and better post-Katrina than before, and I think the room is lovely in a New Orleans way.

Haven't been to Stella.

If it's still there, the Praline Connection in the Warehouse District. The one in the quarter isn't any good though.

If you really like pig try Cochon. Amazing fried pig ears, obscure internal organs, etc. Nice wine and beer selection, cool atmosphere.

- Domilise's for po-boys - a little off the beaten path, but one of their sandwiches with a Barqs is great.
+1 to Acme for oysters; Felix's is also good and directly across the street if I'm not mistaken.
+1 to Port o' Call for burgers, with baked potato on the side.
- Franky and Johhnie's for crawfish.
- I've heard Coop's Place is the place for gumbo but I haven't been.

Acme is good for oysters but be prepared for a wait if you go around normal dinner time (6pm-ish).

Coop's is good all around. I enjoyed the gumbo but I thought the fried chicken OR red beans and rice were REALLY good. My team and I thought the combo plate was a great deal!

galatoire's and commander's, of course. i have always preferred acme for oysters, but the last time i was there (last year), wasn't quite as good as i remembered it. i also like brigtsen's and cochon (the house-made pickles are terrific and be sure and try the moonshine). the quarter is ... well, the quarter. i hadn't been for several years and i was just astonished at how many people were walking around completely faced at 10 in the morning. and then the next day i went to cafe du monde early and watched as a bunch of giggly high school kids on a class trip went all hushed and goggle-eyed at a sax-playing busker. great city.

One tip on Galatoire's: go for Friday lunch. Make sure to sit downstairs. It is almost all locals at that time. Great atmosphere, decent food.

I came on here to post Mister B's BBQ shrimp. This is my favorite Creole dish, and this is the place to eat it. It's barbecued in name only, but is a celebration of shrimp, black pepper, and the joy of sopping up sauce with crusty, delicious bread.

It's also one of the best dishes with which to drink a cold beer. Another institution of Creole cuisine is Commander's Palace - the dish that makes this a destination, in my opinion, is the bread pudding souffle. It really is one of the best desserts ever invented.

ooh.... that's a bold statement in NOLA I'd put it in a clear top 5 with Antoine's Baked Alaska Brennen's Bananas Foster Nola's Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding

+1 on K-Paul's, it's worth the wait even if there's a line. The hot links are awesome. Cafe du Monde is ultra touristy, but the beignets are worth it. Redfish Grill, if it's still there, is good. Some people rip on Court of Two Sisters, but I like it, the jambalaya is good anyway. Commander's Palace is good but not worth the prices, they are definitely resting on their laurels. I too like to wander around and check out the dives, there's some really good stuff to be found, especially in the area of po' boys, bbq and the like. Enjoy your trip!

+1 on both accounts. On a recent trip to NOLA, Cochon was probably my favorite dining experience and we ate at many of the top spots. Really amazing food and even if you don't "really like pig", you'll come away enjoying this spot. Also happened upon Ignatius while roaming around Magazine Street, food was really good, this would be a good spot for a lunch.

Bread pudding, to me, is one of the great desserts on its own. But to thin that pudding out with egg yolks, fold it in with egg whites, and let it result in an airy souffle that additionally rises at the table with the pouring of bourbon sauce . . . man, where am I going with this . . .
