Where is the squeak sound coming from?

I have a pair of a quality, SF-approved brand name, dress shoes that have recently began developing a squeaking sound in the left sole (? ..somewhere)

In general where does this squeaking come from or why does it originate?

These aren't cheap shoes I'm wearing and they are correctly sized and comfortable. Also I tested walking on carpet to make sure it isn't from the tile against anything. It has leather soles.

That generally comes from leather rubbing on leather (insole on midsole, or midsole on outsole). It can often be solved by putting leather conditioner on one or both surfaces of the squeaky leather. The trick is whether you can access the squeaky surfaces or not. Is the insole removable?
If this is a new development in a somewhat worn pair of shoes, it may not be fixable until you resole them (could be something wearing out between the layers that's allowing the squeak to appear).
Can you replicate by flexing with your hands next to your ear (to try to locate the sound)?

None of the layers are removable , so you're saying perhaps there is an inner layer that somehow got loosened from being glued flush against the adjacent layer? So it is a manufacturer defect or lack of workmanship? Ok thanks I see.
I'll try holding it up to my ear and listening when bending the shoe, good idea.

It sucks to have that.
I have two pairs from Beckett Simonen ( I had never tried them before )
BOTH pairs have squeaks in the heel.
To their credit, they've always responded back to emails, but it's a constant asking for more info. I recorded a video of me walking back and forth in front of the camera with the squeak, and thought that would be the end of it, and then they wanted more info.
I finally just gave up. I hate feeling like I have to work long and hard to try and solve something I didn't cause.
Now they just grow dust.

Yes, likely something like that, glue losing bond. Hard to say until they come apart, but probably insufficient glue in a spot. Probably solvable with a resole (if you let the cobbler know), but sucks to have to resole early

Ok I see. I'll just live with it. They are my Kent wang semi brogues (beautiful shoes great leather upper and really comfortable, one of the most comfortable dress shoes I have ever worn at less than 1000 usd retail price).

The sounds are quiet enough for where I work where there is enough ambient workplace noise that nobody notices.

I only really notice when I'm walking down empty hallways it is apparent.


I've had cheaper shoes and AEs that did this. Few were permanent and a couple the sounds went away after time. I hope these they go away over time. They're still pretty brand new even though I bought them a year ago. I just started to wear them this last month.

The squeak I know for sure is in the sole. It makes the noise when I bend my shoe in place without stepping.

That's weird. Reminds me of Dell support; the laptop is dead. But they keep asking you to do these myriad of steps that don't even make sense when you yourself as a tech obviously would have done them already or won't apply in a dead laptop situation. Just send me the box so I can ship it in for warranty for godsakes lol

Really dislike having articles of clothing lying around that you never use but you spend good money on. Unfortunately I have hundreds of these type of articles of clothing.
