I’m a 57, and did get a Stetson in my size, but otherwise, yeah, all too big. Grabbed a 59 Biltmore too (easy to size down), but passed on the Lock, tempting as it was at that price. (A trilby doesn’t seem to suit my face anyway.) There was a bin full of straw hats that were good and cheap but looked pretty beat up. You’d have to spend some time ironing and steaming.

You probably know this, but at JJ if you ask they’ll show the room in the back where they make and repair their hats. Last time I was there, a few months ago, there were a whole bunch of overstock hats back there, including some nice Panamas, all half price. They included a Mayser I’d given up
on finding.

Do you mean the milliner's (the incomparable Van Huynh) work space? I must go in there way too much because I just walk right in there when I drop in to JJ lol I actually bring my vintage hats in there quite often for new sweatbands or new ribbons, or just a steaming and cleaning and that's usually where you place the repair order and pick up so that's mainly why I'm back there. I have seen his work up close and he is a true artisan. He has made some wild stuff for Andre 3000 and Cam Newton, but I've also seen his take on 1930s fedoras (high crown, short brim, wide ribbon, thick bow) and it is exquisite. Jeff Goldblum was just in there the other day getting a cap repaired. Van, as they say, is the man!

This is still going on? When are they wrapping up?

Sorry, I was referring to what I saw last week. I believe they extended into Friday but it's all done now.

eBay is awash in nice looking Peal models for about $269.00? The bulk buyer must have come through for them - I believe the seller is ddealz or something like that.

Found the seller as two of his/her listings came up on one my daily search emails: https://www.ebay.com/usr/realdlz?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

Well, I see you have achieved a level of familiarity with them that I have not! But all I meant was, they have all that overstock on sale back there. Great deals on new hats, and it seems to be a different selection than the sale hats on their website. But maybe your heart is set on that sharp Tesi Hilton.

Clee, yes true to size. The rancourt venetian loafers and pinch penny loafers were the nicest two models at the BB sale. They are solid, but very conservative in style.

the only thing I worry about is width, I'm pretty TTS in terms of length, do they run narrow in the toebox at all (that would be deal breaker for me)

I do not find they run narrow in the toe box. They have a moccasin construction so they will give much more than GYW shoes that you are likely used to wearing.

You can also email Rancourt to get sizing advice for any specific model you are interested in.

Anyone know how does the raincourt loafer/Mac fits? TTS?
Which model? I've found differences in sizing btw shell, cxl and thicker leather rancourts.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
