Give it a shot, I'll be interested in your take on it. I admit, I've not read the book--although I've read a few of Russo's novels. He's had pretty good success with movie adaptions. I'll say this--the show does not recommend the book, if you get my drift. That said, it does sound like a good book otherwise. Not sure how I missed/skipped it.
For the life of me, I don’t get it. It’s…fine? Every article I read about how it’s an all time great show (apparently last episode is an already an ironclad all time great) just makes me wonder what show is being discussed.Speaking of late to the party, the hullabaloo around Succession finally got me to tune in. I’m halfway through season one and wondering what the fuss is about. Does it get better from here? To me it just seems like a subpar version of Dallas with less interesting characters.
Wednesday: I had low expectations given Tim Burton but we're both really enjoying it. Best thing Burton has done in many years.
Better Call Saul: yeah, I'm years late to the party. I didnt watch Breaking Bad until a few years ago, either. A little slow at times but deliberately so. It takes a similarly novelistic approach as The Wire and Breaking Bad: long, slow burning story arcs that both reward and require patience.
My experiences with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul: I didn't start BB until the middle of the last season so I was able to binge it which helped with the pacing.
BCS. We all knew it was a prequel to introduce Jimmy/Saul to the the world of Walter and BB. That is, we knew the stories would intersect at some point and at that point, BCS would probably end because, well, BB. As much as I enjoyed BCS, it suffered--or at least I did, because I watched each and every episode as they dropped. Either when they were 'broadcast' or within the week. Due to the slow pacing and arc of the show, and the fact that it was six seasons separated by long breaks and then Covid, I didn't think Jimmy would EVER meet Walter. I figured at the rate things were going it would take ten seasons, at least, to get there.
A viewer would benefit by binging (or semi-binging) BCS, is my point. Ultimately, BCS was a good show for me.
It was very cool that it turned out to be a prequel and a sequel that wraps up BB nicely.

I enjoy it, but I don’t for a second understand (or agree with) the praise it’s received.
I think Industry is the better HBO show, fwiw.
I mean...also excellent!Just finished season 1 of True Detective, and it was fantastic...
I don't know why I sat on that one for so long.
Next up on my journey of stuff I've put off watching, and I've heard it's epically great, a movie called Waterworld.
