Cannot fathom why every new good/very good show needs to be treated as some sort of seminal achievement.
Because very good tv shows are a seminal achievement. You have seen how many terrible shows there are, right?

The Day of the Jackal was fun
I felt like the last episode was a bit whatever, but it made more sense once I learned there's a second season confirmed. Looking forward to season 2

I'm watching this show called "Earth Abides"...

I'm not exactly sure why, as it's quite possibly the most boring show ever made.

Finished Black Doves. I liked it; a bit ridiculous in places, but a fun spy show. It's also apparently been renewed for a second season, so that will be something to look forward to around Christmas 2026.
The two girl hit-women that I have to turn on closed captioning to understand, are a total delight...

Hope to catch up on Diplomat season two and watch Black Doves over the holidays.

In the search for espionage or adjacent shows after I finished the last season of Slow Horses, I stumbled across Kleo on Netflix. I really enjoyed it. It’s a German production about a Stassi assassin who is imprisoned during the Cold War, then released after the fall of the wall, she then goes in search of those who put her in prison, and why. It’s billed as an action comedy, I’d agree, it’s quite funny. Lead actor is delightful

They're on the more unrealistic end of the spectrum, but I thought both The Rookie and The Night Agent were entertaining.

Edit: sh!t, sorry- not The Rookie. I meant The Recruit.

Agree with you on Night Agent…. Somehow The Rookie slipped under the radar, might give it a shot.

If you have Peacock, I'd highly recommend The Capture. I really enjoyed the first season, then lost track of it for a while. Now I'm halfway through the second and it's tense.

Cross, the new Amazon Prime series following Washington, DC homicide detective Alex Cross, who was played by Morgan Freeman in several movies. The show has been slow through the first two episodes, with the setting being the only appeal for me. I'm going to stick with it in the hope of it picking up.

That's unfortunate- I like Aldis Hodge, so I was hoping this would be good.
Cross picked up for me by the end of episode 3 and is quite compelling by the end of episode 5 (which I just finished). I recommend if you like crime procedurals.

Holliday Grainger...say no more. I see there is a new season of CB Strike this month but only released on BBC so far. Anyone know how long before US/HBO Max viewers get it?
No, but last night I set my VPN to London, set up a BBC account, launched BBCiplayer, and it worked.
Except......for some reason my airplay kept glitching with it and I couldn't get it to my tv.
I'm going to try again today, if it doesn't work, I'll wait. Don't really want to watch it on my laptop.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
