Logged back into this thread specifically to plug The Witch. It is a minor masterpiece that deserves to be seen on the big screen.

Ignore the horror marketing. This is more the speed of early Polanski or Bergman. And amazingly it's the writer/director's first film. He will be one to watch.

The Imitation Game - Morten Tyldum (2014)

Starts out as quite nice;good acting and beautiful filming. But I loose interest after an hour; the story turns falt and lost it's nerve. The director wants to tell too much in too little time, and ends up being superficially.

Cable last night. The stupidity of the George W administration laid bare and the lies that are defining this century. Strong performances all round, a solid disturbing contemporary historical poloitical drama.

Sophie Scholl - The final days - Mark Rothemund (2005)

This is a movie by the Germans on one of the few German resistance movements during the Third Reich.
The movie is ok, but does nothing to the understanding of that periode or to movie as a language. The movie is fare too stereotypical and traditional, and the script leaves nothing to the actors.

Saw Casablanca a little while ago for the over 100th time or so, and had great time repeating every line after Rick and Captain Renault

MARSHLAND A slow burning detective thriller set in Spain amongst the turmoil of September 1980. Two detectives from opposite sides of post Generalissimo Spain are sent to the Marshlands to search for two young women and find that the case has connections to a number of other disappearances, uncooperative locals and drug running which operates under the nose of the local police add to undercurrents of the narrative . A solid Noir thriller which drew comparisons with the first season of True Detective. Interesting as it makes use of the maze like nature of the marshlands as a visual metaphor for their search for clues and an answer.

Wasn't expecting to see the actress and actor back together again so soon. May have avoided this if I had recognized Armas on the movie cover since Knock Knock was just a good filler movie and nothing great. Exposed has a good twist if you get lost enough in the story. Otherwise, I don't think the audience here will find much enjoyment from this flick.

Ms. Armas is beautiful.

A brigde too fare - Richard Attenborough (1977)

About the allied attempt to get behind German lines, and why ang how it didn't succeed.
Star packed this one, but the movie is not only a brigde too fare, it is fare too long, almost three hours. A bit sentimental in the heroic postwar idealism that now seems so outdated.

Saw Zootopia, cutest character design I've seen since vintage Ghibli/Miyazaki stuff; the cubs in the intro scene were too much, so so cuddly! Disney is going to make an absolute killing with the merch for this.

Oh, and the film is top notch as well. Loved the city design, it'd make for a fantastic GTA-style game. Easily best animation since Inside Out; cannot see Finding Dory coming even close to this (frankly, I was never a fan of Nemo so maybe the bias is too strong here).

I'm currently trying to blackmail people to go watch Gods of Egypt, it looks so terrible it's gotta be worth seeing in on the big screen, even if it's just for bragging rights ('Now, let me tell you about the time I watched Gods of Egypt at the cinema!').

Probably will watch the Mermaid this week, Stephen Chow is very hit and miss but I'm always curious to see how insane things get.

Good cast good director.

Good cop who falls foul of local gangbangers V bad cop who is also doing the bidding of Russian Jewish mob and wants to off good cop using local gangbangers so he can divert the force while he does Russian mobs bidding. Action sequences flow Ok, and all the bad guys get offed in the end. Meh nothing to write home about. Glad I only paid $5 oz to see it. 2.5/5

Cable Sunday night first time I've rewatched this since its cinema release, unadulterated grandiloquent visual cinematic extravaganza. Bigger than Ben Hur!
