What is the best quality garment you own?

I greatly admire RL and his contributions. He looks great in some of these composed shots with the DB extended shoulder line. I can see how it would look weird IRL and 3 dimensions.

That said, it took a while for RL to become RL. In the early days he was just a sort of handsome guy with a big head in wide ties. Eventually he evolved into the charismatic, white-hot, star that is Ralph Lauren today. Someone who could make Mugatu’s Derlicte collection from Zoolander look good.

I agree that his earlier 'made in England' PL was a bit flamboyant and why I only purchased ties, shirts and shoes back in those days but today it's very much subdued and perfect in my opinion of what a strong suit should look like. Plus being of shorter stature makes his shoulders perhaps appear to be too big, but im sorry, this guy defines taste for more men than any other brand or label ever. Back in that time of launching PL, he wanted to make a statement and that he did. Compare though the earlier purple label to the Hollywood 30's snd 40's and they don't look so out of whack.

I had seen him several times before in NYC. He was always very well dressed in
a conservatively elegant way. However, at Pebble; Beach he opted for a cartoonish look, IMO.

It's an opinion and I should have not responded like that before. Sometimes certain combos are too much and then yes, they can go sideways. I personally don't like the sneakers or Trail boots with a DB jacket, pants and ties. He does it and just cause I like his overall style and brand doesn't mean I don't disagree. So yes I can see where you were coming from. I wanted to buy a yellow or pink DB jacket from PL but just couldn't pull that trigger. I can't pull that off or it attracts too much attention and I never want to attract the wrong kind of attention. I prefer subtle elegance and why I love grays, blues and browns for the most part.

RL anecdote twice removed: My daughter's best friend from high school,
who she is still close to, attended Duke w/ RL's daughter Dylan. Her friend
spent some time w/ Dylan and the family and reported that they were an
apparently, happy close-knit family. So, Ralph seems to be a mensch
in addition to his myriad other accomplishments.

By quality, I mean the standard of materiel used, the longevity and the craftmanship

I do not own much designer except for shirts, but for me, it is my loro piana. The cotton feels better than silk and I am not exaggerating. Also the way it fits, the comfort and how I feel wearing them.

Actually its the only designer where ive felt like its worth the extra money

I have a Loro Piana cashmere shirt jacket I bought thirty years ago for about $4,000 at Wilkes Bashford San Francisco. A fortune at the time. It’s still part of my wardrobe and has never looked out of style. I’m not a big fan of wearing labels, understated is best for me.

Thirty years ago there was little that could be found on any floor at Wilkes Bashford that I would not have been proud to wear......if I could have afforded it in the first place.
