People who whine about not being able to wear [thing] because it's out of style, too formal, too this, too that. jfc just wear what you want. If you're such a ***** about what people will think then just stfu. There, that's what I hate.

There have been so many of these threads over the years, and they always devolve into the same stupid lists. People listing things out of some weird personal preference (e.g. "I hate loafers"). Or really banal observations (e.g., "I hate the trend for short jackets and cropped pants").

Have never seen a thread about things you love, at least on the CM side of the board. The SWD side of the board has a "Contentedness Thread," which is quite good. There are also many threads about things people are excited to wear for the year or things they enjoyed wearing in the past year.

I know I sound like a broken record, but there used to be really interesting discussions here. You would learn about new tailors or makers. Information about tailoring. Photos from the past that were inspiring. Discussions that were illuminating, often from people who had a lot of knowledge about classic style. I think that's mostly gone and now CM is just weird shoes and grumblings about things people hate.

If we can't have informative discussions, can we at least have a forum about things people are excited about? Things that are inspiring and cool?

I am excited about the following purchases I made and get to wear when I return to the office.

Cavour Covert Wool trousers
Ring Jacket (wool/cashmere)
TLB Artista Hatchgrain

Like a cartoon ladder that tiny men can use to climb up to your chin?

That looks a bit stark, doesn't it.

A very general rule for me is that style details should only be noticeable to someone who is within striking distance of you. There's an intimacy to it. For ties, I suppose that means I like horizontal stripes that are incorporated into the weave in a more monochromatic design. I'd even go as far as to say I'm fine with diagonal lines done that way too.

The issue with the tie in the picture is that you could spot it across the room.

8. Diagonal stripes on a tie. Somebody, somewhere, thought that was a good idea, and people believed it.
Suspect it has to do with the weaving of the materials.
Ties are cut on bias and diagonal stripes are woven with the grain.
Makes the the direction of the stripe a necessity not an option.
You could do horizontal with knits or prints.
