Standard snifters or tumblers not good enough for ya? [IMG]https://www.styleforum.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Also, what's the bottle say about the first barrel? I can mostly make out the sherry casks bit, but can't see what it's saying about the first one. The standard used bourbon barrels?

from L-R: Brane-Centenac (margaux), Cakebread Bordeaux blend, Modicum (French Laundry's house wine), Pichon-Longueville, Domaine de Chevalier, Grgich Estates (overall winner). Did a Bottle Shock recreation with cab heavy wines from Bordeaux and Napa. Went head to head (i.e. round one was the B-R vs Cakebread, round 2 was Pichon Longueville vs Modicum, etc). California came out ahead 2-1, although every vote was determined by one vote. Surprisingly close. The Pichon-Longueville was the only french wine to win the head to head battle. Overall favorite was a 3 way tie between the Pichon-longueville, Grgich, and Brane-Centenac. Lots of fun.

It was a good wine. The funniest thing happened when it went up against the Cakebread because almost everyone was convinced that it was the CA wine given its fruitiness and alcohol content. IIRC, it was listed at 13 or 13.5% vs the cakebreads 14.8% ABV. Turns out we were totally wrong, and the Cakebread seemed more French vs. the Brane-Cantenac. I'd be interested to hear what you think when you try it (PM me!).

Yep, "many years of maturation" in oak. It's only in the sherry casks for the final months, but it's still plenty sweet.

Just finished up the last (brutal) tax session for the season two hours late, got to my car only to have the door handle come off in my hand, and I'm a few hours behind on an accounting research paper due tomorrow. Hello hard liquor.

In celebration of the good and to help drown the relatively mild sorrows, I've turned to a tall pour of Blanton's Single Barrel. For some reason, I'd been remembering this as flat or not to my tastes, but the first sip reminded me that it's sweet, viscous and not too hot on the tongue. Pretty much the perfect soothing remedy.

Don't drink so much that you can't finish the paper.
