Hahaha, thanks, and I'm sorry for you temporary loss. I'll do my best to keep your drinking spirit alive. On that note, I'm putting together a "monsters" tasting for a few friends here is what I have so far:

Sherries:
Aberlour A'bunadh batch 23
Glenfarclas 105
Macallan CS

Peat:
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Laphroiag 10 CS
Longrow 10 100

Americans:
Willaim Larue Weller
George T. Stagg
Thomas H. Handy

I purposely didn't put anything too exotic on the list as I want to make it easy for people to go out and buy their favorites. Also, they are all cask strength (or close) and pretty extreme examples of their categories so people can see the interplay of water and whisk(e)y as well as figure out what flavors they like best. What do you all think?

Saw a drink recipe tonight that I had to try:

Captains Grog
2 oz Sailor Jerry spiced rum
0.5 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Navy Strength rum
0.75 fresh lime juice
0.5 oz grapefruit juice
0.75 oz 1:1 demerara simple syrup
dash Angostura bitters

Shake with ice, and strain into ice-filled collins glass.

The blackstrap rum and the demerara simple syrup give a nice caramel flavor. The citrus cuts though the sweetness and you get a nice spicy finish.

Football + Casa Noble Extra Anejo. One of my favorite tequilas! Aged five years, it displays lots of sweet wood notes along with citrus, spice and some chocolate. Finishes long with a soothing alcohol burn. If you can find it buy it, CN discontinued it in favor of a two year anejo which is not nearly as good. It comes in a very distinctive royal blue ceramic bottle with hand painted gold accents.

05 The Chronique by Betts and Scholl. Hard to imagine Grenache gets much better than this.

Finished the 79 PX tonight also. Man, that was good.

Nope, just the regular old St. George Absinthe Verte. Absinthe is usually blue-green, but can be colorless.

Tonight's plan:

Step 1: Manhattan with Rittenhouse 100
Step 2: Dinner (whatever the wife makes)
Step 3: Old Fashioned with Noah's Mill
Step 4: Hour interlude
Step 5: Run a few miles

Had a dram of Johnny Walker Green Label last night. It was not one of my favorites - I'm not sure what blend of single malts they use, but it just tasted odd. Has anyone tried any of the Compass Box whiskys?

I too was disappointed by Green Label, the problem, in my opinion is the palate is muted.

I had a bottle of the Compass Box Peat Monster, it was okay but didn't live up to its name. Not the greatest whisky I've had but not the worst, I think the Clan Denny vatted Islay is a better drink than the Peat Monster

Canadian Club in a styrofoam cup at my desk in the office at 9:21 PM. It's like an impoverished version of Mad Men. The cleaning lady hasn't come by to empty my recycle bin though.

Trying to figure something to do with the bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label -

The Scotch Mist

2 oz JW Green
0.5 oz honey syrup (1:1)
0.5 oz St. Germain
0.5 oz Luxardo maraschino
2 dashes Fees Barrel Aged Bitters

Stir over ice and strain into ice-filled old fashioned glass.

Not bad. It's a touch sweet, but it has promise.
