High West is another blender and doesn't distill. The number of these branded blenders that has happened is interesting. Not saying it isn't tasty product at times but just commenting on the phenomena.

Yeah but they're basically like the bourbon version of independent bottlers for scotch. I don't quite understand the backlash amongst bourbon afficianados. There's a skill in tasting and blending

I think they should proudly accept it and display it instead of trying to shyster by

That's my rub. Started with Whistlepig and their near malicious obfuscation. I mean I've got some Black Maple Hills, I've got some Copper City, and I'm sure more that's not popping to mind, that all buy their juice and age it, blend it, whatever and it's nice drinking stuff. Just be honest someone else is doing the distilling.

I don't mind that they're basically blenders/barrelers/agers, some of the pricing is f'n ridiculous though.

Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet.

Okay I was lying, downed a black velvet actually.

Most of the above statements should use the word bottlers in place of blender. High West does distill and is no longer Independent. None of the above are like Scottish independent bottlers. Many are closer to being blenders such as Compass Box is. Most startup distillers begin as bottlers while their stock matures.

High West does distill but it's just for show more or less. They have one, 1600 gallon copper pot still, so I doubt that's covering much of their label. Remember, you only fill a still about 2/3's to start, then you're getting a more concentrated output, i.e. the volume decreases to increase the ETOH concentration. So no idea the exact output of a 1600 gallon still but maybe two barrels per run?

We all get the need to create brand while stock matures but High West lacks the capacity to be building original inventory and seems to predicate its model on continuing to purchase distillate and blend it.

Bent Spoke a Belgium style hand pumped Rasberry wheat beer. Have moved from pints to half pints with Mrs GF then pizza at the multicultural festival.

Not normally a huge fan of sours (/sacrilege) but this stuff is pretty nice and mellows quite a bit in the glass.
