Hey y’all,
I hope this is an okay place to ask this question.
I’m currently looking at getting a safari jacket made. I think I’ve narrowed my fabric choices down to a 400 gsm Irish linen and a 460 gsm cotton cavalry twill.
I’ve asked a few friends and some folks online about how these compare, and generally people seem to think that the latter would be a more durable (ie more tear and abrasion resistant) fabric. However, to my knowledge, linen is typically made of stronger fibers.
How do fiber, weight and weave interact to produce durable garments? Is one factor more important than another in ascertaining durability?
Thank you!
