Waistcoat for midnight blue tux

I'm saving up now for a new tux and the appropriate peripherals (shirt, shoes, etc.) For a black tie event coming up. Ideally I'd want to wear a midnight blue shawl collar tux with a black bowtie, but I'm conflicted about the waistcoat. I'm not sure whether to get a black one to match the facings or a midnight blue one to match the pants/jacket. Would it look odd if I had to take the jacket off and have a black waistcoat with blue pants? I've never owned a tux before so I want to make the right purchase. Any advice?

It would look odd to take the jacket off at the event. Don't worry about black vs. midnight blue.

The likelihood of correctly matching an odd waistcoat is slim, you'd be better off keeping your jacket on and if you must get a waist covering get a cummerbund instead of a waistcoat.
