I know Cole Haan can be hit or miss, but I got them for $111 with the extra 30% off

I am not a velvet fan, I own nothing in it but I thought these were a rather classy looking pair. I am ready to get flamed but I want to know about the durability of velvet shoes and how hard they are to maintain, how to clean them, etc.

IMO, the sole of this is too casual for a velvet shoe. I think a velvet shoe should be evening wear strictly. The stacked looking heel makes this penny loafer style kind of a contradiction. If this would be a low nap suede, then OK, but velvet.... I think its a miss.

Durability wise, if the velvet is a rayon, its pretty strong material. Water beads off it, and as long as you store them dry, they are great. They do get linty and dusty, but a good brush takes it right off. They will start to go bald eventually, and if you have a cigarette dropped, or similar heat source touch them, they are fubar.

Considering though, you live on LI, if you wore these to Cippolini/Toku/Il Mulino, you would probably get some cougar love there.

Please do report on their ability to attract more cougar love. I'm looking for a younger woman and am in need of new shoes.

err.. kind of the reverse. If you are looking for a 50+ benefactor, show up looking dandy sans wedding ring at any of the above, especially the first.
