If you're getting books from Drapers, recommend getting the five star book. I like it a lot and recently read that it's Lorenzo Cifonelli's favorite as well.

Minnie seems not to have the classic solids in their 12oz worsted range anymore, but it is a very useful quality. And the new book looks surprisingly woolly.

I agree entirely that "Drapers" Five Star is a good book to have, but only for the informed customer.

Also not all wholeseller are willing to give out generous amounts of books unless they can assure that they will have regular orders with tailors.

By the way, does Drapers have any books that are catered for Asian climates? My limited experience tells that Drapers aren't very known for their tropical offerings.

Harrisons worsted flannel - any views? thx

I have a suit made from a worsted flannel by Harrison's. Thinking about it, I might have two. But the one I'm thinking of specifically has a lovely soft hand and is in the 10/11oz range, I think. The other is heavier and has a harder feel to it. The lighter one is very comfortable to wear.

Curious What makes this book good only for the informed customer? Any pitfalls?

Since most individuals are aware of the "regulars" for dry worsted material most traveling tailors tend to bring Holland & Sherry, Harrison's, and H. Lesser. I find out about Drapers 5-Star after searching through all of my tailor's fabric books. It has the same hand as the H Lesser 13 oz and Harrison Oyster.

Drapers 5-Star book is now withdrawn and discontinued. Draper's rep was in cleaning up the sample books and discarded this book yesterday. Hobart sample book preceded 5-Star ands was every bit as good or better.

thanks- I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone really- lite grey suit with useful odd trews. Not sure I should go with the compromise tho, as I don't like belt loops for a suit, or side adjusters for odds. (and I'm not ready to cross the bridge to braces)

^ Don't do it. It's one thing to compromise with a BlazerSuit where you use it for a suit and jacket, but I wouldn't do it for an extra pair of trousers.

Cock. Hadn't heard that yet. Did your rep mention what will replace it?
