Dear All,

I am considering cloths for a double-breasted sport jacket from the following Holland and Sherry books:

Sherry Tweed / Donegal Tweed
Ascot Soft Touch
Harris Tweed

Have others similarly considered these three books for their fall/winter sport jackets?

Thank you!

The Harris Tweed is substantially heavier than the Sherry Tweed if I remember correctly. I like the Sherry Tweed due to the weight (and may get something made in one of the grey herringbones next year), it feels light enough to wear indoors inside heated buildings. I definitely won't wear the Harris Tweed in my office.

I got the Drapers 30163 wool made up (pic). Perhaps the best summer jacket I've got.
How do you think it’d make up as a suit? I’m thinking about doing a blue and white db (to me, sb is too much of a frat bro vibe) for this summer.

Well, I got it made up as a suit. For mere practical reasons I paired the jacket with beige chinos most of the time, though. It performs fine! It's an airy cloth, at the same time the wool at 300 g/m is more durable than it's cotton seersucker or other brothers. My tailor advised against the Loro Piana, which he has made plenty of, also for himself, merely because of the intended use outside and for activities all day.

I think that makes sense. Granted, I won’t be using it as an everyday workhorse suit. I don’t like cotton suits (don’t like the drape, although I’ve never done a bespoke cotton suits, so who knows). My impression of cotton was that it didn’t drape well or breath well.

One of my friends at Anderson liked the loro piana but doesn’t like the drapers which is what was giving me pause on the drapers (I think the price gives me pause on the lp)

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
