uk mens shoe sizes

i'd like some practical advice on uk shoe sizes. i'm an american 8
and i've found sources here and online that tell me i'm a uk 7 or 7.5.
any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

depends on the brand and last. you need to try them on.

in general:

Edward Green - down a half size (i.e., if you are US size 10, get UK size 9.5). Also, Greens are often marked in both UK and US sizes.

Grenson - go down a full size (if US size 10, buy UK size 9).

Crockett and Jones - depends on the last.

Lobbs are generally a full size down and a letter width up; i.e. a 9D US would be 8E UK. EGs are generally 1/2 size down with the same width; i.e using the same example, 8.5D UK. Of course, every foot is different and a proper fitting is always recommended.
