Travel shoes — what’s your approach?

A lot depends on how much walking I will be doing. If not too much, the Beaudoin & Lange plain stride loafers are comfy and elegant, as well as free of anything that would spook a metal detector. Another favorite for airports is a pair of bespoke suede oxfords, which are soft enough to put on easily without a shoe horn.

It ultimately depends on how long the journey is and what I am wearing.
I would usually wear jeans or fatigues with suede shoes, either a derby or a chukka boot.
