because i stayed thru the credits last night to see the "extra," happened to see David August credited with Downey's suits in the film. Didn't like them all that much, but an interesting read:

http://www.davidaugustinc.com/experience.aspx

"We knew Robert Downey Jr wouldn't disappoint. Despite his broken robot heart, he is clearly having the time of his life, and unlike so many onscreen millionaires, he carries it all off convicingly. (The fact RDJ has his own amazing house, live-in butler and algae shakes clearly helped). Bonus points that he is power-suited in every sense - his custom-made David August tailoring looks spot on.""”Greatest Iron Man 2 moments Appearing at GQ-MAGAZINE.co.uk

Interesting stuff. Wonder why they'd go with him instead of Tom Ford-ish.

"Find me someone who can fake a million dollar looking suit!"

I did notice that they had a cuter in the credits below the costume person, so they had some sort of on-set tailor.

I wonder if they intended for Tony to look deliberately loud. I won't go so far as to say tasteless (even though I didn't like his suits). But unlike the Bruce Wayne character, Tony Stark is known to be a bit of an asshole (and raging alcoholic) playboy-type. That kind of personality coupled with his resources = suits that most of us probably wouldn't wear anyway.

I just saw the movie and I think you could see where the buttons under the jacket would be located. Also, all of Stark's suits had turnback cuffs.

Aside from the pants that puddled at the ankles and the buttonless jacket at the beginning, the suits seemed pretty decent. Good silhouette anyway.

Like all things in hollywood, I'm guessing it was a matter of successful networking.

Agreed. Like 'em or not, they suited his character perfectly.

That aside, Tony Stark rocks.

I think the puddling was due to trying to hide Downey's high heels. He's something like 5' 7". Then again the weird boot cut of his pants at his convention presentation seemed excessive.
