Tom Ford suits are machine made!
May I ask how you quantify that? Every thing is machined? Have you opened up the entire TF jacket up? I just don't see why my tailor/friend would lie to me.

Maybe your terminology of "machine made" can be different to mine/others? For example, the back and side seams are definitely machined as most tailors can say to you it adds no value to do by hand and it actually compromise the integrity of the jacket.

They're mostly machine made unless you pay an upcharge. That said, they are very well crafted machine-made suits.

Upcharge? Do you mean with the M2M programme? I can enquire as I know the store manager in Munich for clarifications. I can't say I had heard of this before. Do you know the price difference?

50% upcharge if you choose the handmade option. It's for MTO or MTM.

Just got reply from her, shes is head of measure and is around 20% more than RTW for MTM and no such things as "hand made". I will chat to her tomorrow to ensure she understood my question

Yeah, she's mistaken. I saw it in the MTM book. Also, the NY Times mentioned it.

$6120.00 Retail Canadian plus 20% or 50%- Hard Pass when you are in bespoke handmade territory.

The label does not justify the price tag regardless of the awesome marketing which is what you are paying for.

Enjoy your suits in good health! You like them then the are awesome for you!!

Thank you so much, although is the article almost 18 yrs old I wonder is the same. I will investigate more and will also go into Selfridges and the Sloane st boutique to investigate
Then I would not ask folks on a public form how they are constructed when you love a garment or brand what different does it make to ask if they are what they are? Haha

Because I like to learn? For example if you tell me X is definitely machined because you personally open up a suit or your tailor had told you, it should broaden up my knowledge.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
