Reviving this post -

I'm going to be commuting by foot in a snowy, northern city (guess which one). It seems like the LL Bran boots, and the Sorels, are the forum's choice.

Are either of these comfy enough to walk to and from work in (30 mins each way)? If not, what would you recommend instead?

Certainly comfortable enough. I wore mine for walking the couple of miles to and from class all the way through undergrad. I will, however, caution on the sizing. I'd recommend sizing down a full size from what you normally wear. They run incredibly big and obviously you don't want to be walking long distances in shoes that don't fit.

If you're wearing them for snow I'd suggest getting a pair with Thinsulate or Gore-Tex.

Wear something else. There are winter boots that look more subdued than that.

I wouldn't wear these to work. I'd get a dressier boot or rubber galoshes for commuting to the office. However, I think they're fine on weekends or for students.

If your workplace is incredibly casual (like jeans and t-shirts) I'd wear them with jeans or chinos and a OCBD. Never tuck the pants.

I've never worn Bean Boots anywhere other than yardwork most weekends or shoveling snow.

What I can say about these is that I have had the same pair for going on 22 years now and with the exception of some of the tread slightly wearing away and the heels being worn, they are in perfect condition.

On that front, it's a quality boot.

I highly recommend the current Bison leather series. Better leather, better color (red sole). Womens' available in lower height, the fit shape is same as mens.
