Hi,
For some reason whenever i tie either a full, or half windsor, the knot ends up uneven. I cant seem to figure out what im doing wrong to cause this.

Any suggestions?

I realize that there are multiple things i could potentially be doing wrong. Just looking for opinions on some of the more common mistakes that might make the knot uneven.

Simple answer is don't tie either of them. Try a simple four in hand, much easier to tie and has a more pleasant shape to the knot.

But if I was interested in tieing one of the two aforementioned knots...any helpful guidelines to follow to keep it even?

The full windsor is too much, in my opinion. The half Windsor on the other hand is really versatile. I find that a slightly asymmetrical half Windsor works best for me (as, unfortunately, my torso is too short to get a good length doing a four in hand—always turn out too long with most ties). A well-done, slightly asymmetrical half windsor with a nonchalant 'dimple' works great for most collars. My trick—if it can be called that—is to tie tightly. Especially important, in the last move before bringing the wide end through the final loop, make sure you pinch the knot so it doesn't loosen as you pull through the wide end. Not sure if that makes any sense? Also, I usually try to tie the knot close to the collar and I never have any issues, but then again, I am not aiming for a perfectly symmetrical knot, and neither should you. It's not a good look .
