If news that comes across my various social media platforms is any guide, there has been no more important news in the world recently than Carrie Underwood's fall and the stitches she needed to help heal dat injuries. Why do these stories keep showing up on my computer screen?

When I get my Verizon (landline) bill I always think to myself "How annoying - I just paid the wireless - why can't they get their sh!t together and send a consolidated bill." Then, I flip the envelope around to insert the letter opener it turns out the envelope is upside down (i.e. the flap is on the bottom edge)! It always makes me think that Verizon must have gotten a batch of misprinted envelopes, but this has been going on for many years

Why does facebook notify me when random friends add photos or other updates to their profiles? I never asked for these notifications and I feel it's a new "feature" in the past few months.

I saw this article on what it takes to be "rich" in different cities. In Las Vegas, you need $108k household income to be "rich" (and $312k to be in the top 1%).

But I bet Vegas is a super weird place to be that kind of "rich". Even if you avoid the strip as a local, you live in a town where really-rich people are always coming in and where not-rich people are coming in to blow a bunch of money and pretend to be rich...

Is that a household or individual income statement? Also, what's interesting to me is the "1% level" seems less variable than the "rich" level.
