Watch an episode each of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares USA and UK and spot the difference. The former has dramatic music and a narrator to explain what happening, the people are more like actors, and there's never any follow up. The later was at times very heartfelt and often really made a difference for those people's lives/businesses.

A few fast casual places around here have a sink to wash your hands out in the open. Why can't people just walk to the bathroom to wash their hands?

I know a bar like that where the toilet is also in the open. It's a very casual place and I think the bathroom door may have just fallen off.

A fried chicken place around here does that. Seems reasonable... Stops greasy bastards from touching the doors.

Buying a first home has brought me into contact with certain professions with which I hadn't been all that familiar in the past--realtors, mortgage brokers, etc. I'm probably just naïve or cloistered, but the affective/interpersonal nature of these interactions have kind of thrown me for a loop. It'd be just mildly annoying if these people were just fake cheerful because that's part of their job. But I've begun to wonder the extent to which their mannerisms are fake and the extent to which that's how they've grown to interact with the world. That they tend to see nothing particularly fake about seeing every social interaction as a kind of business proposition.
Several factors at play here: (1) The real estate business has very low barriers to entry, resulting in a glut of realtors at any time; (2) real-estate agents, particularly on the buyers' side, do not have specialized skills compared to many other professions other than a lot of patience; and (3) most business comes by referral or word of mouth. Then you throw in sellers who are increasingly realizing that realtors are just transactions costs who do not do nearly enough to justify their usual 6% commission, and you have a situation where realtors need to be constantly hustling.

There's a popular Texas BBQ chain, Rudy's, that does the same thing. They have a giant trough sink to wash hands out in the open for people when they're done eating. Bathrooms are still private.

I'm probably outing myself as a rube, but Rudy's is still some of the best BBQ I've had in my life

Definitely one of the best chain BBQ joints around. A lot of the other chain BBQ places I've tried have been terrible.
