I want to learn French, what's the best program other than private lessons?
I take classes at my local French Alliance. They have locations all across the world so I'm assuming NYC would have one also. Right now I pay $210 for 7 week session that meets once a week for 2 hours.

Somebody decided they wanted to get into a parking spot so bad yesterday they tried to go through my car.

Today I’m getting a recall repair done, which seems pointless since there’s probably enough body damage to total the car. But hey, it’s free for me and gives the mechanics some hours to bill.

Funny/interesting (at least to me) story about second languages:

My daughter has a speech delay. She’s cognitively fine, but her speech, especially enunciation, has lagged. She has been in a Spanish-language immersion daycare since she was an infant, so she’s also bilingual. When they did the evaluation to see if she needed speech therapy, they had to bring in a Spanish-language interpreter to make sure they could effectively evaluate both languages. We also learned during that process that she prefers Spanish because it’s easier to speak than English (we think her speech issues are physical), and her Spanish vocabulary is larger than her English one.

She’s now wrapping up her first year of speech therapy, and we’ve seen enormous improvement. In fact, she’s well beyond they goals they set for her progress by this time of year (it’s on the academic calendar). However, it dawned on me during our update meeting this morning that I’ve noticed that her Spanish enunciation is now basically perfect (I have a rudimentary understanding of Spanish) while her English will continue to need some level of speech therapy, at least at the start of the next academic year.

So, my gringa daughter, born and raised in the Southern suburbs by gringos, speaks perfect Spanish with a Peruvian accent, while her English continues to need professional intervention.
