@WBaker Dood, this unfortunate event has really done something... you just look/seem “better.” Seriously. The beard and the looks you’ve put together with donated clothes from folks who “know” and care about you have been cool. These are just trivial internet things I know, but... You’ve elevated somehow. I mean this in the most sincere (as superficial as this whole little internet thing can be) way. Somehow, some way, maybe this was a blessing in disguise? Please forgive me. I don’t mean to downplay what you’ve been through at all. I’m just saying this nice outpouring of community help, coupled with your gracious response to it, has been something special, and it shows.

@cocostella no offense taken! I think having a hundred or so pieces of clothing I had spent countless hours collecting, that I had to keep safe moving cross country and in tiny Brooklyn apartments, was in a way hilariously taxing. A sort of Smaug like affair. So while yes I've had a few rough days overall I'm more zen about things. I've been putting some thought into not retreating right back to my old mentality, like I won't be rebuying anything I previously owned as that sounds like a horribly sad pursuit. I also stopped drinking about a year ago after realizing I didn't really enjoy it or like who I was when drinking. So it's most likely a mix of the above and growing up in general. Thank you for the thoughtful words

Sounds like, despite awful circumstances, you’ve been given a gift to be able to step back and reexamine your life, determine what’s important and explore new possibilities.

In terms of personal style, you’ve had to literally shed your old, familiar skin and try on some new ones you might not have otherwise considered. And yes, the outpouring from this community has been impressive and must be a source of comfort to you.

While you were doubtless attached to your old gear, I concur some of your new looks are among your best, and beard’s cool too??
