Beautiful! What does the red text on the dial say? Is it Arabic? I always love the exotic touch of having non-Latin letters on a watch face.
It is the name of the previous ruler of Dubai - Maktoum - this was one of six watches which he gave to the pilots of his private planes and helicopters.

I got it from the son of the original owner, who never wore it, it came with the complete box and papers. The interesting thing about the papers is that they were devoid of anything other than the serial number, normally on the top left there is a 3 digit code, which indicates which country the watch is intended for. On this certificate the space was unperforated, meaning that the watch was collected directly from the factory.

Blah blah blah, same old story as always in these threads.

Just kidding, really interesting provenance. How long have you had it?

Guys, I'm going to ask you guys to please keep the posting about watches, and to avoid comments about race, crime, and other political topics, even in jokes. Sometimes it can be hard to discern tone, especially on the open internet. If you feel the need to discuss those topics, you are invited to discuss these topics in a respectful way in the current events forum.

Thanks,

Fok,

Got 30cm of snow in the last 24hrs, business as usual, but for once, the 4x4 SUV is useful.

Is there a noticeable difference between the Patek 315 and 324 movements, besides the former having a bit bigger power reserve, and the latter beats slightly faster?

I’m sure I’m overthinking it but it it worth continuing to look for the watch I want with a 324 movement when the same watch with a 315 movement is available, from a reliable dealer, in the configuration I want?

Both are proven workhorses. Patek used the 315 for 20+ years. It is super reliable. Between the two calibers, differences in beat rate and power reserve aren’t really important and bring their own compromises. For example, even if the 324 is marginally more precise, the higher beat will also lead to marginally more wear on the movement. It’s not a better/worse decision. Each is just different.

I’d focus on getting the best condition watch possible and not worry if it’s a 315 or 324.

Probably my favorite PP that is not appended to my body.

The dial is a silvery off-white - but it switches to almost a golden hue in the sunlight. A really neat watch.
