Returned to sender, or the CBSA for assessment?

https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/dispute-contestation-eng.html

Was it the amount of duty you had to pay, or the fact you were being charged duty at all?

Did you order UK goods from the US? Or direct from UK? I think technically, you get dinged duty even if the goods are CETA, if they are coming from the US.

Returned to sender; not CBSA.

I don't mind paying duties at the accurate rate. In this case, should be about 13% (HST).

But they made two mistakes:

1. They calculated the cost based on the price tag on the items; not the invoice where it shows I paid less than regular price.

2. They didn't take into account CETA (no form in the package).

It was explained well by another member, but the gist is that duties are calculated based on the items manufacturing origin (in this case, Europe). Not on where they're shipped form (in this case, the US).

That's why Mr. Porter is still frustrating to deal with. They still pre-charge full duties (i.e. expired dutues) on items to Canada that are made in Europe. Ironically enough, they offered to wave duties for items made in the US.

It's confusing. I thought that was just for importing, and not if the goods are actually then being sold in the USA to Canada. Probably CBSA agents don't know what they are doing half the time. Good luck.

It funny. US retailers pay duties for goods made in Europe. It's built into the price. But they can get a refund on the duty if they sell that item to a Canadian customer. It's rare they would pass on the savings though because of the complexity of the process.

And it's happening again...

Holt Renfrew on bloor additional markdowns (as of today).

Highlights:
- Brioni ties for $49
- Brioni SCs for $999 (seersucker)
- An amazing DB Brioni suit in 42R in the $1300 range
- Canali cotton trousers for $49
- Brioni shoes marked down to $5-600 range.
- And cheap Berluti!

The DB suit had a lot of handwork (including button holes).

Holt's has the best sales amongst the major retailers (not including outlets).

Edit: They had this tie for $49. Picked one up.

Any good US proxies? Apparently Net-a-porter/Mr. Porter isn't shipping to PO boxes or mail forwarding services anymore.
