Returned to sender, or the CBSA for assessment?
https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/dispute-contestation-eng.html
Was it the amount of duty you had to pay, or the fact you were being charged duty at all?
Did you order UK goods from the US? Or direct from UK? I think technically, you get dinged duty even if the goods are CETA, if they are coming from the US.
Returned to sender; not CBSA.
I don't mind paying duties at the accurate rate. In this case, should be about 13% (HST).
But they made two mistakes:
1. They calculated the cost based on the price tag on the items; not the invoice where it shows I paid less than regular price.
2. They didn't take into account CETA (no form in the package).
It was explained well by another member, but the gist is that duties are calculated based on the items manufacturing origin (in this case, Europe). Not on where they're shipped form (in this case, the US).
That's why Mr. Porter is still frustrating to deal with. They still pre-charge full duties (i.e. expired dutues) on items to Canada that are made in Europe. Ironically enough, they offered to wave duties for items made in the US.
